“Remote work has already progressed through the first two stages of Gandhi’s model for change: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Jason Fried and David Hansson, founders of Basecamp

Why should you read this book?

Thirty years ago remote work looked as futuristic as work from Mars. We did not have mobile phones, emails nor the Internet. We worked with landlines, post deliveries and yellow pages.

From sending letters and faxes, calling people and waiting for a quick response we moved into an era where everything happens in real time.

Where we used to need various tools, devices and accessories to do our jobs, we need only a computer, a fast internet connection, a mobile phone and the right processes in place. The only missing thing there is a widespread understanding that everything has changed and still is constantly changing.

Why all that? Our lives changed. We have more hobbies; we are more concern about our fitness, our food, our private life. We realise that having money is great and life is hard without them, but, life without time to live is much harder.

If an average person sleeps 7 hours, works 9 hours and commute for an hour or more, it leaves us with 8 spare hours to spend. Cooking, eating, showering and we have even less free time.

The free time has become a new luxury.

Hi, I’m Ivan.

In 2011 I started to work for a company with headquarters in California from the UK. My life changed immediately. I became what I longed-for for so many years. A remote worker, a remotee.

Seven years later and I am still on that path. Not only that. Since then I have co-founded two startups that use only remote workers. Actually, we do not have offices in a regular sense at all. If we want to meet, we get together in a rented Airbnb, a restaurant, a coffee shop or a bar.

Many people I know have asked me over the years how I was able to work remotely. How I could trust people who work for me. How I could ignore all temptations and disruptions when working from home. Or, how I could manage to work at all when travelling in Vietnam, Portugal, United States, Netherland, Mongolia or elsewhere.

So I started to preach about remote work.

Last year, I decided to write things down not only for a few close friends around me but also for you.

Seven years later and I am still on that path. Not only that. Since then I have co-founded two startups that use only remote workers. Actually, we do not have offices in a regular sense at all. If we want to meet, we get together in a rented Airbnb, a restaurant, a coffee shop or a bar.

This book isn’t another manual trying to convince employers that they should allow remote work in their companies.

It’s a book that will show you, individual people, how it all is possible. How your life can become better balanced, more fulfilling and enjoyable even when working as hard as always.

Remote work is the future happening already now. You don’t want to be late!

Join me on a journey that changes your life forever.
